University Profile
The University of Hyderabad, a premier institution of post-graduate teaching and research in the country, was established in 1974 by an act of Parliament. The University offers facilities for post-graduate studies and research in all major disciplines. The University has been recently accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a five star rating. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized it (along with four other institutions in the country) as a University with Potential for Excellence.
The University of Hyderabad has emerged as a premier centre of higher learning with outstanding student output and faculty who have to their credit notable accomplishments. The University offers facilities for postgraduate and research studies in major disciplines in sciences, humanities, social sciences, performing arts, fine arts & communication and management studies. The University is spread in a 2300-acres campus.

University Achievements
Library
Indira Gandhi Memorial Library is a central facility which provides information support for teaching and research activities of the University of Hyderabad. The library was established in the year 1975 and was later renamed as Indira Gandhi Memorial Library in 1989. The Library holds a rich collection of Books, Monographs, Reference works, Serials, Maps, Theses & Dissertations and Back volumes of periodicals. The Library subscribes to around 630 periodicals, 1,700 e-journals & popular magazines. The collection has around 4000 Ph.D/M.Phil theses submitted to the University, and these available online over the campus intranet. The library has a special collection of prescribed text books for students in a 'Book Bank'.

Sundays & Holidays : 10.00 AM - 4:30 PM
Health Centre
The Health Centre, managed by a team of doctors, supported by nurses and other para medical staff caters to the basic needs of the campus community. A scheme for health insurance which is mandatory for all the students exists in the University to provide health care and to cover expenses towards in-patient treatment subject to a maximum of Rs. 15,000. All the students must apply for medical insurance in the prescribed form by a notified date. The insurance fee of Rs 260/- per annum is payable at the time of admission in July for freshers and along with the fees for the Monsoon Semester in the case of ongoing students. Those who do not pay the fees and do not submit the copy of the challan in the office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare will not be eligible for any kind of medical aid and their enrolment in the University will stand automatically cancelled.
Hostels
There are altogether 10 hostels on the campus at present, of which seven are for men and the rest three are for women.
