University Profile
The KurukshetraUniversity was established in 1956 as a unitary residential University and its foundation stone was laid by late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. Located in the holy city of Kurukshetra, land of the historical battle of 'Mahabharata' and the great message of Bhagwad Gita, its campus is situated on the western bank of Brahm Sarover (the holy tank) and extends over an area of over 400 acres. Starting with only the Department of Sanskrit, it has grown into a multi-faculty University as one of the premier centres for advanced study and research in the region.
Library
The University library is the heart of academic pursuits, directly so, as regards its research work, and indirectly as regards its teaching work, which derives its life from research work. Scientific research needs library as well as its laboratories, while for humanistic research, the library is both library and laboratory in one. Therefore, quality education & faculty is impossible without quality library. Committed to offer quality education, KurukshetraUniversity established the Jawahar Lal Nehru Library having a plinth area of 49,230 Sq.ft. having the facility of 370 seats in six reading areas at different floors of the library and 100 seats in the Rear Reading Hall.
University library and its extension as Departmental Libraries is manned by nine well qualified professionals, one programmer, twenty-four Semi-Professionals and forty-two supporting staff. The library has 2,99,463 documents including 7,000 manuscripts. It subscribes to 400 journals on print media (foreign & Indian) and on line Journals/ databases/under UGC-INFONET programs

Health Centre
The University Health Centre looks after the Medical needs of the student, staff and their families of the campus. Medicines are given in the University Health Centre round the clock. Homeopathic medicines are also given in the Health Centre. Complete Physiotherapy Unit, Computerised ECG, EEG and Spirometry, X-Ray Ambulance facilities, laboratories facilities with Auto Analyser etc. Ultrasound and Dental facilities are available in the University Health Centre.
Sports
The University Sports Department is a full-fledged Department with one Director, Physical Education & Sports. Two Assistant Directors (Male & Female), 5 University Coaches and enthusiastic team of 30 members of the non-teaching staff. Affairs of KurukshetraUniversity sports come under the auspices of Kurukshetra University Sports Council, where Principals of all the affiliated Colleges are its member. Due representation is given to Lecturers in Physical Education and the Coaches in the body. The Executive Board of Kurukshetra University Sports Council headed by President, Kurukshetra University Sports Council, manages routine affairs.

Financial Incentives
KurukshetraUniversity is one of the leading Universities amongst Indian Universities in providing facilities to its sports persons and financial incentives to outstanding sports persons of the University for winning Medals at North Zone/North-East Zone/All India Inter University Tournament.
NCC Activities
N.C.C. activities of cadets belong to University teaching departments and maintained college is operated through its office located in University college building. There are two Platoons of 1/10 company of NCC – one for teaching department, National Institute of Law and other for University college. From session 2004-05, NCC for girl’s students was restarted under 1 Haryana girls Bn. H.Q. at AmbalaCity.
Special Privilege:
This unit of NCC has a privilege that two former Vice Chancellors of Kurukshetra University Dr. M.L. Ranga and Dr. A.K. Chawla were the colonel commandants
