University Profile
The University was established in June 1985 around the nucleus of Centre for Post Graduate Instruction and Research of the University of Bombay in Goa. The University Campus is located on the outskirts of Panaji, the capital city and spread over nearly 173 hectares on the Taleigao plateau overlooking the scenic ZuariRiver joining the Arabian Sea.
The jurisdiction of GoaUniversity extends over the whole State of Goa. The University has 42 affiliated colleges, 5 recognised Institutions, 22 Post Graduate teaching departments, Centre for latin American Studies and Centre for Women's Studies and the University Science Instrumentation Centre.
The University has also numerous infrastructural facilities such as Transport, Post-Office, Banking, Guest House, Xerox centre, Kiosks and Canteens. The GoaUniversityAcademicStaffCollege is one of the 43 Academic Staff Colleges in the Country sanctioned by the University Grants Commission to provide in-service orientation courses and subject orientation courses to college teachers from Goa and the neighboring States. The University has a growing library with over 1,00,000 volumes of books and 480 periodicals.
Hostel Accommodation
The University provides hostel facilities on the University Campus for men and women students to accommodate 113 and 200 students in the respective hostels. Students studying in the post-graduate courses of the University will be accommodated in the hostel, subject to availability of seats; there is also limited hostel accommodation possible for research students.
Sports
GoaUniversity has a Sports Section, which looks after Sports of the post-graduate students as well as of the colleges affiliated to our University.
The Sports Section conducts nineteen various events as Inter-collegiate tournaments which are divided into two phases.
1. The first phase starts from the last week of July and ends in the first week of October.
2. The second phase starts from the last week of November and ends in the first week of February.
Sports Section also deputes various GoaUniversity teams to participate at the Inter-University tournaments. The University has a standard football ground at the Campus.
Health Centre
The University has a minimal health centre facility located at the premises of the Guest House. This is open to all the students as well as Staff (also families) and is open on all working days from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. and from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
