University Profile
The VIIth Nizam of Hyderabad, Nawwab Mir Osman Ali Khan, founded OsmaniaUniversity, Hyderabad in 1917. It is the seventh oldest university in India and is a multi-faculty and multidisciplinary university, which has significantly contributed to the academic development of the country. OsmaniaUniversity has shown remarkable progress and sustained an integrated development of all its faculties.
With a sprawling campus of nearly 1600 acres, Osmania University is home to nearly 3,00,000 students pursuing their higher studies in its Campus, Constituent, affiliated Colleges and District Centres. It has nearly 5000 staff numbers and faculty. OsmaniaUniversity was awarded with the Five Star status by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission.

During the last two years the University has organized a number of tournaments and All India events, such as All India Inter University Cricket Tournament (Women), All India & South Zone Inter-University Kabaddi and the prestigious Vizzy Trophy Cricket Tournament. It has won honors in various sports events. It bagged the 2nd place in All India Inter University Cricket Tournament in both men and women categories. It got the 3rd place in All India Inter-University Boxing and Softball Competitions.
Library
The University library system consists of a Main Library and College / Department/Seminar Libraries. The University Library coordinates the library system, which links the libraries in all the campus and constituent college libraries. The main library was established in 1918 along with the University. The Library was shifted to the present building, which was inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India on 3rd August 1963.
It stands majestically inviolable on the highest point of the campus, commanding a panoramic view of the unusually beautiful Deccan landscape. The new building has a floor area of 62,000 sq. ft. It is a fitting symbol of the present decade of progress. The Library is divided into a number of Sections basing on the collection and services offered. They are Text Book Section, Periodical Section, Reference Section, Acquisition & Cataloguing Sections. Additionally, it has Vision of Osmania, Manuscript Section, Theses Section, CERL Section & U.N. Section, which are highlighted.
Working Hours
The library is kept open throughout the year except for six days (three national and three festival holidays).
